Layer: The shots & the milk

Drink modifiers that price every oat milk

Drink modifiers are the options a customer adds to a drink — size, milk, extra shots, syrups, temperature, sweetness. In GetCafePOS each group is a modifier set with its own prices, rules and order on the ticket, so an oat-milk upcharge is charged every time and the barista reads the drink in the order they build it.

How drink modifiers works in your shop

Set it up once in the back office; after that it runs at the speed of the counter.

  1. Create modifier sets

    10 min

One set per decision: Milk, Shots, Syrup, Sweetness, Temperature. Each option has a name and an optional upcharge.

  2. Attach them to drinks

    5 min

Attach Milk and Shots to all espresso drinks at once; attach Sweetness only to drinks that take it.

  3. Set sizes as variations

    5 min

Sizes are product variations with their own price and stock, so a 16 oz is priced and counted differently from an 8 oz.

  4. Ring, print, make

    every order

The bar ticket lists the drink, size and modifiers in your build order, with any note last.

On the bar: the drink that used to be given away

Before, oat milk was a verbal request and half the time the 75-cent upcharge was not rung. With Milk as a modifier set, "Oat" is a button with its price on it. The report at the end of the week shows how many oat upcharges you rang — and how much the old way was leaking.

An illustrative example of how the feature is used, not a customer story.

Which plans include drink modifiers?

Drink modifiers: questions from the counter

Answered by the GetCafePOS team. Can’t find yours? Ask us.

How do I charge extra for oat or almond milk?

Create a Milk modifier set with options such as Whole (no charge), Oat and Almond, each with its own upcharge. Attach the set to your espresso drinks. The cashier taps the milk, the upcharge is added to the sale, and your report counts it.

Can sizes have different prices?

Yes. Sizes are product variations, so an 8, 12 and 16 oz latte each have their own price and can have their own stock and SKU. In the UAE and Pakistan you can name sizes however your menu does — Regular and Large, or 250 and 350 ml.

Can a customer choose more than one syrup?

Yes. A modifier set can allow several options at once, so vanilla plus caramel is two taps and two upcharges if you charge for both.

Will the barista see modifiers in the right order?

Yes. You set the order sets print in — for example size, shots, milk, syrup, sweetness, temperature, then notes — so the ticket reads like the build.

How do I handle "half sweet" or "less ice"?

Make a Sweetness or Ice set with zero-price options such as Half sweet, No sugar, Light ice. Zero-price options still print on the ticket, so the drink is made right.

Can I add an allergy note?

Yes. Every line takes a free-text note that prints on the bar ticket and shows on the bar screen. Keep allergy information on your menu as well; the note is a reminder, not a safety system.

Do modifiers show on the online store?

Yes. The auto-generated store uses the same products and options, so an order-ahead customer picks milk and shots the same way your cashier does.

Can I see which modifiers sell most?

Yes. Sales reports break down modifier sales, so you can see how many extra shots or oat upcharges you sold in a day, week or month.
