Fast coffee shop ordering that keeps the line moving

Fast coffee shop ordering means a register screen where the drinks you sell most sit one tap away, sizes are a second tap, and payment is a third. GetCafePOS gives you a tile grid of your menu, favourite keys, and suggested modifiers, so a cashier can take a regular latte order in about the time it takes the customer to say it.

How fast tap ordering works in your shop

Set it up once in the back office; after that it runs at the speed of the counter.

  1. Tap the drink

    1 tap

Your best sellers sit on the first screen as large tiles with colour and a photo. Categories (Espresso, Brewed, Tea, Bakery) are one swipe away.

  2. Tap the size

    1 tap

Size is asked first because it changes the price. Small, medium and large (or 8, 12, 16 oz) are big buttons, never a dropdown.

  3. Add the extras

    0–3 taps

Milk, shots and syrups appear as modifier buttons with their upcharge shown, so nothing is missed and nothing is given away.

  4. Charge and send

    1 tap

Cash, card through your processor, or split. The order prints or shows on the bar screen the moment it is paid.

On the bar: rush hour, one cashier

At 8:10 the line is eleven deep. The cashier taps "Latte", "16 oz", "Oat", charges the card through your processor, and the bar screen shows the drink before the customer has put their phone away. The next customer is a regular: their phone number brings up their points and their last order, which the cashier repeats with one tap.

Fast tap ordering: questions from the counter

Answered by the GetCafePOS team. Can’t find yours? Ask us.

How fast can a cashier take a coffee order?

A regular drink is three taps: the drink, the size, and the payment. Custom drinks add one tap per modifier. The speed comes from putting your best sellers on the first screen and showing modifiers as buttons rather than menus.

Can I put my most popular drinks on the first screen?

Yes. You pin favourites to the top row and drag tiles into the order you want. Most cafes pin 6 to 12 drinks, which typically covers the majority of morning orders.

Does it work on an iPad or Android tablet?

Yes. The register runs in a modern browser, so an iPad, an Android tablet, a Windows touchscreen or a laptop all work. Nothing is installed, and you can log in from a second device if one breaks.

Can I hold an order while the customer decides?

Yes. Suspend the order, serve the next customer, and recall it from the list of held orders. Held orders keep their modifiers and notes.

What if a new barista has never used a POS?

The screen is pictures and big buttons, so most new staff take orders on their first shift. You can also give them a role that hides refunds, discounts and reports until you are ready.

Can customers see their order total while I ring it up?

Yes. You can open a customer-facing display on a second screen or tablet that shows the items and total as they are added, which is also where the tip prompt appears.

What happens if the internet goes down?

The register needs a connection to save sales. We recommend a phone hotspot or a 4G router as a backup line; most cafes switch in under a minute. We do not claim an offline mode.

Is fast ordering included in every plan?

Yes. The tap ordering screen, favourites and quick cash are in Single Shot, Double Shot and Roastery. The plans differ by registers, bar screens and multi-location tools, not by how fast you can take an order.
